Malaysia is the Champion, Tournament of Minds, 19th. World Congress of Neurology 2009
The 19th World Congress of Neurology concluded recently in Bangkok, Thailand. This event is held once every four years by the World Federation of Neurology. The World Federation of Neurology is the body representing 100,000 neurologists world wide. On this occasion, it took place from October 24th -30th 2009 and was well attended by close to 4000 delegates from all over the world.
It is considered the most important event in the calendar of neurologists globally. Assoc. Prof Dr Tan Kay Sin, President of the Malaysian Society of Neurosciences from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur was the national delegate to the World Federation of Neurology and this conference. Neurology is the study and medical practice related to the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles.
During this conference, the .Tournament of the Minds., a quiz competition on all aspects of neurology and neurosciences was held among the participating nations and consisted of 3-stage, knock-out rounds.
The final round was the highlight of the meeting just before the closing ceremony of the conference. I am also pleased to report that the Malaysian team represented by Dr. Lim Shen Yang (University of Malaya), Dr. Eow Gaik Bee and Dr. Lim Tien Tien (Penang General Hospital) and Dr. Shanthi Viswanathan (Kuala Lumpur General Hospital) won this prestigious competition by beating Singapore, India, Sri Lanka, Japan, United Kingdom, Australia, Hong Kong, Ireland, Austria and other countries on the way to victory.
The Malaysian Team was awarded with a trophy, certificates, mini-trophies and the ultimate satisfaction that it can be the best in the world in the field of medicine and science. .Malaysia Boleh!.. We look forward to defending the title in Morocco in the next World Congress.
